Augustus Waters is the guy that every girl dreams about. Beautiful. funny, smart, caring and one who has his way with words. he is described as having dark hair, water blue eyes, is tall and well built- seeing as he used to play basketball. He has one prosthetic leg.
Augustus has good relationships with his parents. But sometimes teenagers need to be given freedom to live life on their terms and learn from their mistakes. Right before Augustus and Hazel take off to Amsterdam, hazel hears Augustus yelling at his mother "Because it is my life, mom. It belongs to me" (green, 139). Augustus is so smooth. He has his way with words. He's flirtatious and cute. He greets hazel's mother with an "Always a pleasure to see you, ma'am" (green, 140). Which can pretty much make hazel's heart melt from how amazing he is. He's also very comforting. For example when hazel said that she wasted his wish on van houten the doucheface and buried herself into his shirt, he replied with, "No. I will grant you that you did spend my one and only wish, but you did not spent it on him. You spent it on us" (green, 195). At this moment that is exactly what hazel needed to hear, so that's what augustus intended to deliver. Augustus is a very strong individual emotionally and physically. Throughout their trip, there is foreshadowing that his cancer is coming back. For example: "When it was half open, he winced in pain and lost his grip on the door for a second" (green, 205). He displays his strength and mind-over-matter mentality when he says, ""Yeah, yeah door's just heavy, i guess." He pushed again and got it open" (Green, 205). This example shows his emotional and his physical strength and also foreshadows the collapse of his health. He's supposed to be NEC, healthy, and happy, but this really reflects on how life can just "end in the middle of a" (green, 49). Augustus is a guy like any other - he wants to live - but His greatest fear is said to be oblivion. he wants to make a mark on the world and hates the idea of not leaving a mark at all. |
